Job Overview
The Asphalt Plant Laborer will perform a variety of manual tasks required in keeping a hot-mix Asphalt Plant clean and orderly to assist in the Plant’s safe and efficient operation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary functions will include the use of a variety of hand or powered tools to clean or to remove material and debris to ensure the continued operation of a hot-mix Asphalt Plant.
- Under supervision, responsibilities will include sweeping, lifting, and storing parts and materials, shoveling spilled aggregates from conveyors, cleaning grease and spilled asphalt materials from the Plant, etc.
- Grease various moving parts on the Plant’s mechanical system, which requires climbing into silos.
- Assist Plant Mechanics and Plant Operators with repair work.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Perform projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in operating various types of heavy equipment preferred, but not required.
- Able to stay alert to constant dangers of moving Plant parts and falling materials from conveyors.
- Able to work at extreme heights at the top of Plants and silos.
- Able to recognize various products by sight and to understand proper Plant operation.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; function effectively as part of a team; ability to work under pressure; communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Mechanical aptitude is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend, and stoop. The employee frequently is required to stand, (for up to 8 eight hours), walk (occasionally on rough terrain/in varying weather conditions), climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person, and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, computer screens, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees, and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
