Assistant Project Manager – Federal Contracting Division

Summary/Objective

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the full lifecycle execution of federal and commercial construction projects. This role assists with project planning, cost and schedule tracking, subcontractor coordination, procurement, change management, documentation control, and compliance with federal contracting requirements to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Primary Job Responsibilities

· Assist Project Managers with project planning, coordination, and execution from preconstruction through closeout.

· Support subcontractor procurement, bid leveling, scope review, and contract preparation.

· Coordinate subcontractor and vendor activities to ensure alignment with project schedules and contract requirements.

· Prepare, track, and manage submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, procurement logs, and change orders.

· Support cost tracking including budget updates, commitments, change order logs, and forecast support as assigned.

· Assist with schedule development and updates including look-ahead planning and milestone tracking.

· Support quality control/assurance processes and ensure compliance with contract requirements and specifications.

· Maintain organized project documentation and ensure timely communication among stakeholders.

· Support project closeout deliverables including O&M manuals, as-builts, warranties, and turnover packages.

· Ensure compliance with federal contracting requirements, including FAR/DFARS documentation, reporting, and coordination for military base projects.

Other Responsibilities

· Participate in jobsite safety meetings and inspections to support company safety culture.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives across project delivery and internal processes.

· Assist with mentoring Project Engineers and supporting onboarding of project staff as assigned.

Competencies, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

· Ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and contract requirements.

· Working knowledge of subcontractor procurement, project cost controls, and documentation workflows.

· Understanding of government contracting procedures and compliance requirements.

· Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety standards preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not currently include direct supervisory responsibilities but may oversee subcontractor coordination and support field personnel as needed.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both office and active construction environments. Project sites may include military bases and commercial properties, which may involve exposure to:

· Uneven terrain

· Loud noise levels

· Outdoor weather conditions

· Ongoing construction activities and machinery

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the job’s essential functions:

· Frequently required to sit at a desk, work on a computer, and communicate via phone and email.

· Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or kneel on construction sites.

· Will need to lift or move items up to 50 pounds.

· Must be able to navigate active construction sites, including stairs, ladders, and uneven surfaces.

Expected Hours of Work

Full-time position: standard 40 hours are Monday through Friday.

Occasional evenings, after hours, or weekend hours may be required based on project schedules or deadlines.

Travel

· Travel to project sites is required (up to 75%).

· Projects are primarily domestic and may include work on secure federal or military installations.

Required Education and Experience

· High School Diploma required.

· 4 years of experience in commercial or federal construction required (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

· Experience supporting federal/military base projects strongly preferred.

· OSHA 30 certification preferred; ability to obtain it is required.

· USACE CQM certification a plus.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must be able to get a background check and drug test.

Work Authorization

Must be eligible to work in the United States.

U.S. citizenship may be required based on specific government contract requirements.

Pay Transparency Statement

The salary range for this position is $80k - $100k a year (MidAtlantic Region). This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range. As a result, starting pay may vary within the posted range.

The Company reserves the right to modify compensation and benefits programs in accordance with applicable laws and business needs.
