R&D Engineer (Mechanical Engineer)

Position Summary:

• This temporary R&D Engineer role is part of the Research and Development (R&D) Department at client and will support the design and development of new products, improvement of existing products, and sustaining engineering activities.
• This is a full-time, 1-year temporary position intended to provide additional engineering support for product development and related initiatives.
• The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in mechanical design, engineering analysis, material selection and testing, project management, data collection and analysis, and technical report writing. This role may also support product installation, start-ups, field testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities related to water treatment equipment and products.
• This position includes hands-on work in developing and executing test plans, analyzing and communicating results in a timely manner, and supporting factory and quality teams with root cause analysis to resolve product performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• The role will also involve preparing and processing engineering change notices (ECNs) as needed.
• The R&D Engineer III will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, sales, vendors, and product management teams.
• Responsibilities include part design, 3D CAD modeling, component and material selection, qualification of new materials and components, assembly design, and engineering documentation.
• This role will support execution against the product roadmap established by product management to help drive growth and expansion of product lines through new product innovation, value engineering, sustaining engineering, and product improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Support part design, material selection, design analysis, and design documentation activities.
• Contribute to product design, development, testing, validation, and qualification efforts.
• Lead product troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
• Manage projects or sub-projects, including timelines and budgets, while working within cross-functional teams.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians on priorities, workload, and technical problem-solving.
• Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), test plans, and technical reports.
• Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
• Support engineering change processes, including creation and resolution of ECNs.
• Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required with 5 years professional experience preferred.
• Masters degree is preferred.
• Hands-on work in a research and development environment including experience in piping and plumbing and water treatment technologies
• Experience with water (i) electro-membrane separation technologies across water treatment applications; (ii) the use of electrochemical technologies for the removal of specific contaminants in water is a bonus
• Bill of Materials (BOM) generation, and engineering change process and documentation
• Project management experience (including budgeting/scheduling) and working in an interdisciplinary team preferred
• 2D and 3D CAD and part design and documentation. Autodesk inventor software is preferred
• Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is preferred
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and quick to learn new software
• 5S and safety-first mindset, ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required safety equipment (PPE)
