POSITION PURPOSE:
The EC Autism Liaison provides support and strategy instruction and/or interventions for administration, teachers, teacher assistants and students in the least restrictive environment. This position acts as a member of the District EC Department and assists schools across the district. Additionally, the EC Autism Liaison mentors and provides professional development through large group and one on one advisement/support in an effort to: minimize classroom disruptions; minimize number of students being sent out of class; support teachers in building positive relationships with students; and improve student time on task and student achievement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Federal, State and local policies for special education, related to Autism
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate situations and provide recommendations for improvement
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity
- Knowledge of the standard course of study and the extension of the standard course of study
- Ability to modify and adapt curriculum, instruction and environment
- Ability to develop and deliver professional development to a large audience
- Demonstrated ability to motivate students and teachers
- Ability to collect, interpret and use data to document outcomes for students
- Conduct formal/informal observations in the classroom
- Ability to maintain basic files and records, including data analysis
- Assist teachers with creating educational tools to assist students with Autism in and out of the classroom
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in special education, behavior analysis, or psychology
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience within special education
- Demonstrated experience in leadership roles, including facilitating team discussions and problem-solving
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Valid NC License in Special Education or a related service area
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in special education, behavior analysis, or psychology
- NC License in K-5 Regular Education and/or Birth-Kindergarten
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strong leadership, guidance and support to school-based staff, administrators and other departments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies
- Assist building level administrators with resolving issues relating to the delivery of special education services
- Assist special education teachers with data collection, eligibility, IEP development, structuring/organizing classrooms, behavior management development, etc.
- Assist schools and parents in problem solving student needs
- Provide modeling, coaching, observations and recommendations to improve instruction and services for student(s); may include providing information regarding different techniques or methodologies that may be appropriate for student(s) (Grades PreK – 12)
- Develop, implement and maintain data base of student information, data collection, professional development and required documentation submitted to the EC Department and/or NCDPI
- Lead/co-lead the District Autism Team
- Attend local and state professional developments as outlined annually
- Lead/co-lead CPI training for the district
- Perform other duties as assigned by EC Director and/or EC Assistant Director
