10-Month Live-On Position/Part Time
The Graduate Residence Director has the responsibility for a campus residence hall and supervision of undergraduate paraprofessional staff. This position is expected to support the mission of the residence life department as well as the College by being a role model to staff and students, supporting college programs and services, enforcing college policies and procedures, providing leadership during crises, and managing the daily operations of their assigned area.
- Bachelor's degree required
- Enrolled in a local institution's graduate-level program (including, optionally, Ramapo College)
- Strong supervisory skills
- Previous residence life or campus leadership experience
- Previous administrative experience
- Previous experience with Residence Hall operations preferred
- Must live in the provided on-campus apartment
- Employment begins on or about August 4, 2026
- Private on-campus apartment (apartment details vary based on location)
- All apartments include local telephone service, internet access, and cable television connection
- Dining allowance: $500 Ramapo Dollars per semester (used for meals at Ramapo dining areas)
- 10-month position stipend of about $8,000
- Tuition remission (taxable income, used only for tuition & fees) up to $8,000 per academic year (Fall and Spring only) to a local institution's graduate program
- Works to create a community within the assigned residence hall
- Interacts with residents and makes him/herself readily available to all students
- Offers consultations and referrals for students with academic, behavioral, emotional, or physical concerns
- Be aware of college resources to refer students with academic, career, and personal concerns.
- Models appropriate behavior and confronts all inappropriate behavior of residents
- Enforces college and residence life policies
- Mediates student conflicts
- Assists in the supervision of paraprofessional staff in the performance of their duties
- Responsible for ongoing staff development of the para-professional staff
- Responsible for creating a staff team that supports and encourages teamwork and mutual respect
- Assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of RA staff as needed
- Provides ongoing feedback to RA & SARD staff regarding their personal and professional development
- Provides emotional support and motivation for staff members
- Conducts weekly staff meetings and individual meetings with RA staff & DA managers
- Provides leadership during crises
- Approve timesheets/and all student employment hire paperwork
- Maintains a weekly schedule of 20 office hours per week (break times are to be scheduled separately)
- Performs administrative tasks delegated by the Area Director/supervisors
- Assists the Area Director in opening and closing within the assigned residence area
- Serves as a student conduct hearing officer for minor discipline cases
- Assists the Area Director in the supervision and coordination of bimonthly room inspections
- Keeps communication with student staff as their direct supervisor and holds them accountable
- Assists the Area Director in keeping accurate information of all residents, including building/area rosters
- Reports needed maintenance and building repairs
- Maintains an accurate key inventory, including the peg system, office keys with staff, and other keys where applicable
- Meets regularly with the Area Director/supervisor
- Keeps the Area Director/supervisor informed of any issues and/or student concerns
- Monitors floor and building-related issues and reports them to the Area Director/supervisor
- Maintains open communication with the Area Director/supervisor regarding the area of responsibility
- Relates to other offices
- Collaborates with Public Safety, Facilities, and Housekeeping personnel to assure proper residence hall and office operations
- Works with Public Safety to educate students on safety and security
- Participates in an on-call duty rotation
- Manages other duties as assigned by the Area Director/supervisors
