POSITION: MS/HS Art Teacher

Job Description:
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Art Teacher assesses, plans, and provides engaging learning experiences in art for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a dynamic and inclusive art program that fosters artistic growth, creativity, and appreciation, ensuring that students develop fundamental artistic skills while engaging with diverse styles and traditions. The art teacher supports students in developing their artistic abilities to the fullest extent possible through differentiated instruction, hands-on experiences, and a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of: the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students with disabilities; MA content curriculum frameworks and instructional techniques; human behavior, development, and skill performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders; and Ralph C. Mahar Regional policies and effective instructional practices.
The Art Teacher also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services; completes observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students; displays the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community members. Overall, the special educator possesses excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form.

Instruction & Curriculum Implementation
Develop and deliver engaging art instruction aligned with Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
Teach a variety of visual arts disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media.
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and artistic abilities.
Integrate art history, cultural perspectives, and contemporary art practices into lessons.
Utilize technology and interdisciplinary approaches to enhance student learning.
Classroom & Studio Management
Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters creativity and self-expression.
Establish clear classroom expectations and procedures that promote respect and artistic exploration.
Maintain an organized and safe art studio, ensuring proper use, care, and storage of materials and equipment.
Manage classroom supplies, budgets, and inventory effectively.
Exhibitions & Extracurricular Activities
Organize student art displays, exhibitions, and showcases within the school and community.
Encourage student participation in local, regional, and national art competitions.
Support extracurricular opportunities such as art clubs, mural projects, or portfolio development workshops.
Collaboration & Professional Development
Work collaboratively with colleagues, school leadership, and district arts staff to support and expand the visual arts program.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress and program activities.
Participate in professional development, department meetings, and curriculum planning initiatives.
Compliance & School Responsibilities
Adhere to state and district policies, including grading, assessment, and accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols in handling art materials and equipment.
Fulfill assigned duties such as supervising students during school events, lunch, or dismissal as required.
The teacher must:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective
instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis,
elementary/early childhood assessments in mathematics and literacy, and research
related to learning and best practices
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data
management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
5. Possess knowledge and demonstrate understanding of all required components of the
Individualized Education Program(IEP).
6. Possess the SEI RETELL Endorsement for Educators (ELL)
7. Skilled with G-Suite for Education
8. Must have a current Massachusetts Teaching License in Teacher, Visual Art, 5-12
Physical Requirement:
Position requires light work exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, and/or ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination/mind-eye coordination; intermittent keyboarding and telephoning. Frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

SALARY:$48,018 - $103,482 depending on experience
