Position Overview
The Client is seeking a detail-driven Purchasing Manager with strong experience in quoting design projects and managing supply chain operations within technical or automotive manufacturing environments.
This role requires technical understanding, cost awareness, and strong supplier negotiation skills to ensure prototype and low-volume programs are delivered on time and within budget. The ideal candidate thrives in a small to mid-sized company environment and is looking to grow long-term with an innovative engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute the full purchasing cycle for prototype and low-volume EV/BMS manufacturing projects
- Prepare and analyze RFQs and design quotations based on engineering drawings and customer requirements
- Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and production teams to forecast material and component needs
- Identify, qualify, and manage suppliers for electrical, mechanical, machined, and fabricated components
- Negotiate pricing, manage purchase orders, track lead times, and optimize costs
- Monitor procurement schedules, vendor performance, and inventory levels to meet aggressive prototype timelines
- Ensure proper documentation, vendor compliance, and quality standards are maintained
- Evaluate logistics strategies and determine optimal sourcing channels for specialized components
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 5–10 years of purchasing experience within a technical manufacturing company or automotive supplier
- Strong experience preparing accurate design-based quotations
- Solid understanding of prototype production environments, EV systems, or Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience sourcing specialized mechanical and electrical components
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
- Background working in small or mid-sized business environments (not heavily process-driven large corporations)
- Desire to grow long-term with a scaling engineering organization
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with wiring harnesses, machined parts, or electrical assemblies
- Familiarity with supply chain risk management and vendor development
- Automotive Tier supplier experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $90,000 – $140,000 (based on experience)
