Job Overview
- The CAD Designer is responsible for preparing and maintaining engineering and construction drawings that support gas distribution and pipeline infrastructure projects. This role provides drafting, design, mapping, and technical support for pipeline facilities, stations, and related assets while collaborating with engineering, construction, operations, and external stakeholders. The position requires proficiency in CAD software, strong attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings, field notes, and survey data to ensure accurate and efficient project execution.
- Prepare simple to intermediate-level piping and mechanical fabrication drawings for gas distribution and pipeline projects.
- Develop civil site plans, grading plans, pipeline alignment sheets, and profile drawings for construction projects, including gate stations, meter and regulator stations, and related pipeline facilities.
- Coordinate assigned drafting and design projects, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately and within established timelines.
- Participate in project drawing reviews and prepare ongoing project status updates and reports.
- Support internal and external customers by providing facility drawings, pipeline information, and technical documentation.
- Conduct facility data research to support modifications, expansions, and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
- Maintain and provide accurate gas facility mapping and asset information for engineering, construction, operations, and other company personnel.
- Respond to requests for facility information from external stakeholders, including engineering firms, utility locating services, government agencies, and contractors.
- Interpret and incorporate survey information, field notes, and as-built documentation into design drawings.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of construction drawing packages and related technical documents.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, senior designers, and project teams to complete drafting and design assignments.
- Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and independent decision-making within established design standards and procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by maintaining drawing accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- May require overtime, weekend, and holiday work to support project schedules and completion deadlines.
- Involves extensive computer-aided drafting and design work, including prolonged periods of keyboard and computer use.
- Requires travel to company facilities, project sites, and field locations, including occasional overnight stays.
- Involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and dry environments.
- Requires the ability to walk on uneven, steep, or undeveloped terrain.
- Must be capable of safely performing field visits and site assessments as required.
Required
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 0-2 years of professional drafting, design, or related technical experience.
- Experience supporting engineering, utility, pipeline, oil and gas, or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain regular attendance and adherence to approved work schedules.
- Meet established design and drafting productivity, quality, and project completion expectations.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and ethical standards.
- Adhere to all applicable industry regulations and compliance requirements, including FERC, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
- Support a culture of safety, integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software and drafting principles.
- Ability to read and interpret facility drawings, alignment sheets, engineering plans, and technical specifications.
- Understanding of drafting standards, industry terminology, and standard engineering practices.
- Knowledge of property rights-of-way, surveying principles, and basic mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

- Autodesk Vault
- Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Experience with CADWorx P&ID is considered an asset.
