Rainbow Reef Dive Center is one of the busiest and most respected dive operations in the world. With two full-service dive centers, a fleet of eight charter boats, a retail store, and a state-of-the-art training facility featuring a deep-water pool, we provide unmatched diving experiences in the beautiful Key Largo area.
Our team of over 50 PADI professionals certifies thousands of recreational and professional-level divers each year and introduces tens of thousands of guests to the underwater world.
We are currently seeking a motivated, safety-focused Boat Captain to join our dynamic and professional team. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Position: Boat Captain
Overview: The Captain is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of charter vessels, including managing crew and passengers while ensuring an exceptional customer experience. Safety of all passengers, crew, and equipment is the top priority.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate vessels for scheduled charters (morning, afternoon, and night) in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company standards
- Lead and supervise crew, providing mentorship in safe boating, seamanship, and customer service
- Ensure adherence to safe diving practices and applicable training standards
- Conduct and log routine engine and vessel system checks for each trip
- Oversee vessel cleanliness, fueling, and general readiness
- Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and inspections as needed
- Monitor weather and ocean conditions to make informed operational decisions
- Ensure passengers receive proper briefings and support throughout trips
- Maintain accurate records, trip reports, and safety drill logs
- Uphold a professional, team-oriented, and customer-focused environment
Additional Duties
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure all equipment is operational and up to date
- Participate in drills, meetings, and operational planning
- Support scheduling updates and customer trip coordination
- Promote a positive workplace culture and continuous staff development
Required Skills
- Strong boat handling and navigation (day and night)

- Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergencies
- Basic vessel maintenance knowledge
Qualifications
- Valid USCG Captain’s License (50 Ton Near Coastal or higher)
- Marine Radio Operator Permit (or ability to obtain)
- Current CPR/AED or Emergency First Responder certification
- Divemaster or higher (Instructor preferred)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
