Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Race Rock is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. As an Engineering Manager of Utility Structures, you will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining engineering design quality standards and procedures, while leading and developing an engineering team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Candidate will manage all in-house engineering responsibilities for Race Rock.

• Candidate will manage third-party engineering resources both offshore and within the continental United States.

• Candidate will be accountable for interpretation of customer specifications, creating design of structures and components, and providing relevant technical information to other cross-functional teams.

• Candidate will communicate with customers, including in-person or virtually, to effectively understand customer specifications and requirements.

• Candidate will maintain and optimize budgets to ensure targets are achieved both on time and within budget.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering

• Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or ability to obtain within six months.

• Eight years’ minimum experience in structural design and analysis of utility structures

• 2 years’ minimum experience designing steel structures using PLS-Pole

• Leading and mentoring a team of engineers

• Support project management office, drafting department, Quality Department, and Plant Operations.

• Ability to provide engineering guidance to solve field-related issues and optimize manufacturing processes.

• Partner with other functional teams.

• Communicating and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Collaborate with business development teams and sales to identify new opportunities, prepare proposals, participate in client presentations.

• The position may be hybrid.

• This position requires 20% travel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in steel pole structural design.

• Working knowledge of RISA 3D, Mathcad, or equal.

• Experience in Microsoft Office.

• Experience in detailing structural components including welds and bolted connections.

• Excellent Project Management Skills

• Ability to lead and develop others.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• A valid Texas driver's license is required for this job.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Work performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

• Limited physical effort required.

• Limited exposure to physical risk.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE:

• Historically, SSP has been a manufacturer and distributor of structural and steel products, due to growth and appetite from customers, this is a natural time to create an in-house engineering department and take the business to the next level within the utilities sector.

• The Engineering Manager will help contribute to the company’s advanced growth goals over the next three to five years to grow the company revenue.

• This person will be responsible for growing and managing a team of engineers within the next 12-24 months.
