This job operates in a professional office setting with occasional field visits related to paving and concrete projects. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role is in a fast-paced environment with deadlines tied to bid schedules.
Physical Demands
Candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions year-round. Responsibilities include frequent lifting and carrying of materials or equipment weighing up to 75 lbs, regular climbing and working from ladders, and extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Travel
Local travel for occasional field visits required.

Essential Functions
- Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs for asphalt paving, concrete, and milling scopes
- Solicit and track supplier pricing (asphalt, concrete materials, trucking, etc.)
- Help prepare cost estimates, proposals, and bid packages
- Maintain bid logs and organize project documentation
- Attend pre-bid meetings when needed
- Support senior estimators with pricing analysis and scope reviews
- Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Ensure estimates align with company production capabilities and market conditions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/associate’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required)
- 0–3 years of experience in construction or estimating (internships count)
- Basic understanding of asphalt paving, concrete work, or milling operations (preferred)
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Planswift, Bluebeam)
- Strong communication skills
- Detail-oriented for providing clean and concise proposal packages
- Familiarity with unit pricing and production rates for paving and concrete operations
- Advancement to Estimator roles
- Increased responsibility in bid preparation and pricing analysis
