Media Specialist I/II

Location: Norfolk, VA

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance

Travel: Up to 20%, including CONUS and OCONUS travel

Job Description:

We are seeking Media Specialists I/II to support Military Sealift Command Technical Library operations. The Media Specialist will provide document imaging, digitization, records management, media processing, technical library support, and customer assistance to ensure Government personnel have timely access to accurate and reliable technical information. The position supports electronic and physical collections containing technical publications, engineering records, drawings, photographs, multimedia materials, and other Government information. Work may be performed at Government facilities, naval installations, shipyards, industrial locations, and aboard Military Sealift Command or U.S. Navy vessels.

Duties May Include:

  • Support the daily operation and maintenance of Government technical library collections in electronic and physical formats.
  • Receive, organize, file, track, distribute, and inventory technical publications, manuals,

engineering records, reports, drawings, and reference materials.

  • Scan and digitize technical documents, photographs, historical records, and engineering

materials.

  • Review scanned files for image quality, accuracy, completeness, proper indexing, and

compliance with established naming conventions.

  • Enter metadata and maintain electronic files, document tracking logs, databases,

spreadsheets, and records management systems.

  • Support the storage, retrieval, retention, disposition, and protection of Government records and controlled information.
  • Organize digital photographs, graphics, multimedia files, and electronic media collections.
  • Assist with audiovisual equipment setup, multimedia support, and media inventory

activities.

  • Help Government personnel locate technical publications, electronic records, databases, and other library resources.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, activity logs, library statistics, and document distribution records.
  • Support quality assurance reviews, records inventories, digitization projects, audits, and

special assignments.

  • Identify opportunities to improve library, document management, digitization, and customer service processes.
  • Assist with Standard Operating Procedure updates and the implementation of new

technologies.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of contract and mission requirements.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum experience based on assigned level:
  • Media Specialist I: At least one year of experience in library support, records management, document imaging, office administration, customer service, or a related field.
  • Media Specialist II: At least three years of progressively responsible experience supporting library operations, document management, records management, media services, or a related function.
  • Experience organizing, processing, filing, tracking, or retrieving electronic or hard-copy

records.

  • Ability to operate document scanners, computers, copiers, multifunction printers, and

standard office equipment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, organize large volumes of information, and manage

multiple priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a Government or contractor

environment.

  • Ability to safeguard sensitive, controlled, and confidential Government information.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, operational requirements, and short-notice

assignments.

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain required Government credentials, installation access,

CAC, and security clearance, if required.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including local, CONUS, and OCONUS

assignments.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds; sit, stand, and

walk for extended periods; bend, reach, and access shelving; climb stairs or vessel

gangways; and wear required personal protective equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Library Science, Information Management, Multimedia,

Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting Military Sealift Command, the U.S. Navy, the Department of

Defense, or another Federal Government organization.

  • Experience working in Government technical libraries, engineering offices, records

facilities, shipyards, naval installations, or maritime environments.

  • Experience with technical publications, engineering documentation, electronic records

management, digital imaging, or audiovisual services.

  • Experience with Electronic Document Management Systems or Integrated Library Systems.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional, high-speed document scanners, digital filing systems, and basic image-editing software.
  • Experience supporting Government contracts, document control programs, records

inventories, quality assurance activities, or digitization projects.

  • Familiarity with library operations, records retention requirements, metadata entry, inventory control, and Government office procedures.
