The Sanitation Technician is responsible for performing and overseeing high-level sanitation operations within the food manufacturing facility, with a primary focus on the thorough cleaning and sanitizing of production equipment and machinery. This role is critical to ensuring product safety, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of Sauder's Eggs standards.

Days and hours for the position are:
Monday - Friday
9:00 pm to 5:30 am

Some Thursdays & Fridays will be 5:00 pm to 1:30 am

Key Responsibilities

1. Departmental Oversight & Sanitation Procedures

  • Ensuring all team members are trained on specific cleaning requirements and techniques for the assigned area of machinery and building. Ensure all cleaning operations is executed efficiently and to standards.
  • Enforce proper cleaning and sanitation procedures across the assigned area of machinery to ensure a safe, consistent product.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area at all times, including production floors, equipment, and surrounding areas.
  • Perform pre-operational and post-operational inspections of all equipment to verify cleanliness and readiness for production.
  • Execute deep cleaning of complex food manufacturing machinery, including disassembly, scrubbing, sanitizing, and reassembly of all components.
  • Perform general maintenance repairs on equipment and machinery.

2. Quality Verification & Sauder's Eggs Standards

  • Verify that all sanitation activities meet the quality expectations and standards established by Sauder's Eggs.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections of sanitation performance, documenting findings and corrective actions taken.
  • Ensure proper chemical concentrations, contact times, and application methods are consistently applied during all cleaning operations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete sanitation logs, records, and reports as required by company policy.

3. Regulatory Compliance (USDA & GMP)

  • Verify that all sanitation procedures comply with USDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
  • Stay current with all applicable federal and state regulations governing food safety and sanitation in egg processing facilities.
  • Actively support USDA inspections, and internal food safety reviews.
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of all cleaning chemicals and sanitizing agents in compliance with SDS (Safety Data Sheet) requirements.
  • Complete required training and certifications related to food safety, HACCP, and sanitation practices.

4. Cross-Functional Communication & Production Support

  • Collaborate with production personnel to identify sanitation-related issues that negatively impact production efficiency or product quality.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, quality assurance teams, and maintenance staff to address and resolve problem areas in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to management regarding improvements to cleaning processes, equipment design, or chemical usage.
  • Participate in meetings to relay sanitation status and escalate issues as needed.
  • Train and mentor team members on proper sanitation techniques, chemical handling, and documentation practices.

5. Safety

  • Follow all company, OSHA, and facility-specific safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, aprons, and boots when handling chemicals or operating cleaning equipment.
  • Demonstrate safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous cleaning chemicals in accordance with SDS guidelines.
  • Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or potential hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when cleaning, maintaining, or performing any work on production machinery.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the sanitation team and throughout the facility.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in sanitation within a food manufacturing, food processing, or regulated production environment.
  • Prior experience cleaning industrial machinery and production equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDA regulations, GMP standards, and HACCP principles strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial cleaning chemicals, proper dilution rates, and safe chemical handling.
  • Ability to read and follow written sanitation SOPs, work instructions, and safety data sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs; work in wet, cold, or warm environments for extended periods.
