Painter - Steel paint shop

Job Summary

The Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing fabricated steel products to meet customer specifications, industry standards, and company quality requirements. This role ensures proper application of primers, paints, and protective coatings, contributing to both the durability and appearance of finished products. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a thorough understanding of coating materials and application methods, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Essential Job Duties

Must be able to perform these duties with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Mix, match, and apply primers, paints, and industrial coatings using spray guns, rollers, or brushes.
• Mask, tape, or cover areas not intended for painting.
• Inspect finished work to verify coating thickness, adhesion, and quality standards.
• Operate and maintain spray guns, pressure pots, and other painting equipment.
• Properly handle, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Ability to pepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, sanding, or blasting to remove rust, scale, grease, and other contaminants.
• Assist with loading/unloading materials and moving finished products as needed.
• Follow all company policies, safety standards, and production procedures.

· Ability to adhere to established work schedules with regular and reliable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in painting or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of coating materials, application methods, and safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed.
• Willingness to work in various environmental conditions.
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings a plus.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are required.

Skills & Abilities

• Language: Able to read, interpret, and communicate work instructions, safety procedures, and coating specifications in English. Capable of documenting work performed and communicating effectively with supervisors and team members.
• Mathematics: Skilled in basic math, including reading and converting measurements, calculating coverage rates, and ensuring proper coating thickness.
• Reasoning & Problem-Solving: Strong ability to identify surface imperfections, recommend corrective actions, and adapt to changing production priorities. Able to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions to maintain quality standards.
• Computer Literacy: Basic proficiency with digital tools for time entry, email, and blueprint or coating specification viewing software. Quick to learn and adapt to new systems as needed.
• Technical Aptitude: Knowledge of coating materials, spray equipment, film thickness gauges, and calibration tools. Skilled in proper handling of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA and environmental standards

EQUIPMENT LISTING (MACHINES, TOOLS & SOFTWARE):

The possession of a Certification in painting or related field is a plus. Training in hazardous materials handling and safety is necessary. Must be proficient in operating wet and dry mil film thickness gauges and calibration tools.

Experience

• Proven experience in industrial painting, including auto painting or construction surface preparation is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with coating materials such as powder coatings and industrial paints is essential.
• Knowledge of machining processes and the use of hand tools, power tools, and spray guns for finishing applications.
• Ability to interpret manufacturing instructions and technical documents accurately.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols related to respiratory protection, PPE use—including respirators—and working with hazardous materials.
• Basic math skills for measurements, mixing paints, and calculating coverage areas are required.
• Experience with quality standards in production environments ensures consistent results and adherence to specifications.

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
