Human Resource Specialist
 
Overview:
Human Resource Specialist is responsible for the attraction, selection, training, assessment and rewarding of employees while also overseeing organizational leadership and culture, and ensuring compliance within employment and labor laws and manages daily personnel functions.  In circumstances where employees desire and are legally authorized to hold a collective bargaining agreement, HR will also serve as the company’s primary liaison with the employees’ representatives.
 
Job Responsibilities but not limited to:
  • Maintain employee records concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, performance appraisals and absenteeism
  • Maintain OSHA records and ensure company is OSHA compliant
  • Administer unemployment claims
  • Administer and maintain worker’s compensation claims and records
  • Post open jobs, screen resumes, and interview job applicants.
  • Run background checks and contact references.
  • Develop, administer and evaluate applicant tests
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions and resolve work-related problems
  • Analyze training needs to design employee development and health and safety programs
  • Conduct exit interviews when requested by employees or managers
  • Administer and enforce company, state, federal and local policies
  • Administer Worker’s Compensation and the Return to Work Program
  • Administer Drug Free Policy for Bureau of Worker’s Compensation
  • Administer safety and recreation programs
  • Administer and process the enrollment of new and existing employees into benefit plans during open enrollment periods
  • Prepare and conduct new hire orientation for hourly and salaried employees and prepare new files
  • Maintain accurate employee files and database records.
  • Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits
  • Explain policies, benefits and procedures to employees
  • Perform difficult staffing duties including but not limited to:
    • Dealing with understaffing
    • Refereeing disputes
    • Termination of employees
    • Administering disciplinary procedures
  • Advise managers on organization, federal and state policy matters
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefit policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Develop transitional work programs
  • Apply for and monitor grants
  • Create and monitor job descriptions
  • Assist in any other office activities as needed
  • Attend meeting and training seminars pertaining to the job
  • Develop and implement processes for improvement
  • Any other task management or the company deems necessary

  • Foster teamwork and like activities with all employees.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner while representing the company, both inside premises and while visiting customers.
  • Must be competent with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must have a general understanding of local, state and national laws pertaining to the business.
  • Lead by example including supporting upper management decisions and communicating them in a positive manner to lower level employees.
  • Provide a weekly work report to management that includes successes and an update on your department for the week.
Required Education:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in the human resource field or an Associate’s Degree and one year of work related experience
  • SHRM Certification Desired
