The Dental Insurance Representative is responsible for managing insurance-related tasks accurately, efficiently, and professionally. This role requires strong critical-thinking skills, excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with patients, insurance companies, and members of the dental team.
The ideal candidate will take ownership of insurance issues from verification through payment, follow up on unresolved claims, assist with appeals, and develop a strong understanding of dental procedures, billing, and insurance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Complete insurance verifications and detailed benefit breakdowns.
- Contact insurance companies by phone and online portals.
- Explain insurance benefits and patient responsibility by phone and in person.
- Learn dental billing, insurance policies, and common dental procedures.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, underpaid, or unresolved claims.
- Correct and resubmit claims when necessary.
- Accurately enter insurance payments, adjustments, and patient balances.
- Prepare and track insurance appeals.
- Gather appeal documentation, including X-rays, clinical notes, narratives, photographs, and periodontal charting.
- Maintain clear and organized notes in patient accounts.
- Assist patients with insurance and billing questions.
