What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatrist – Mental Health Services position at R>L. Klein & Associates?
We are seeking Licensed Psychiatrists to provide psychiatric services at Correctional Facilities . The role involves delivering direct patient care to mentally ill youth in a correctional environment, performing evaluations, treatment planning, crisis interventions, and consultations as needed.
Requirements:
- Active, unrestricted license to practice Psychiatry in California.
- Minimum 12 continuous months of Psychiatry experience in the last 3 years in a public or private institution (excluding internship).
- Proficiency in English (oral and written) for effective documentation and patient care communication.
- Ability to perform in-person clinical interviews, including in multi-tiered housing requiring stair climbing and walking long distances.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a correctional setting with interdisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct psychiatric care to youth, including crisis interventions and face-to-face interviews in housing units.
- Conduct initial mental health evaluations, suicide risk assessments, and mental status exams (MSE).
- Review medical, psychiatric, and court records to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings and document all care using SOAPE formatted notes.
- Prescribe medications following the Correctional Facility Formulary and interpret lab results.
- Provide consultation to psychiatric staff on complex cases and collaborate with primary care teams.
- Maintain safety and security of the facility, adhering to confidentiality and mandated reporting requirements.
- Participate in clinical rounds, quality improvement, and committee activities.
- Serve as psychiatrist-of-the-day for on-call/call-back duties as required.
- Provide training to health care providers on psychiatry principles and practices.
