We’re looking for an enthusiastic, qualified candidate to lead a knowledgeable team committed to delivering exceptional customer care and service.
As the General Manager of our Stowe, VT rk MILES Hardware store, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operations, ensuring the highest level of customer service, team leadership, and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong management, communication, and organizational skills.
As a member of our team, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the hardware store and lumber yard ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for customers and staff.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets and sales goals. Analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective sales strategies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels in coordination with buyers. Monitor stock, place orders as needed and ensure proper merchandising.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers. Lead by example in delivering exceptional service and support.
- Initiate and implement sales programs to drive customer engagement and generate new project leads.
- Hire, train, and develop employees. Foster a positive team environment with clear expectations, regular feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
- Ensure the facility is compliant with all safety protocols and security procedures. Maintain a safe workplace for both employees and customers.
- Work closely with inside sales and purchasing teams to prepare accurate sales orders, quotes, and proposals. Ensure seamless coordination across departments for operational efficiency.
- Ensure all employees adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining a professional and consistent workplace culture.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in the lumber and building materials industry.
- Strong knowledge of building materials, millwork products and basic construction applications.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance and foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Must possess strong management, organizational, communication and computer skills.
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills with experience in inventory control, budgeting and overall operational oversight.
