R&D Paving is seeking a roller operator. This position offers compensation based on qualifications and experience, plus added benefits.
ROLLER OPERATOR (Breakdown rollers, rubber tire rollers, finish rollers) DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: JOB FOREMAN/SUPERINTENDENT Job summary: Requires the operation of self propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tire, vibrator, segmented or other type roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways, streets and runways. The job requirements are to distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling Asphalt. The first stage breaks down the asphalt mix with the breakdown roller. The second stage compresses it with a rubber tire roller and the final finish is given by the finish roller. Roller operators may also be required to compact earth fills, sub grades and flexible base.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Drives machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness. Determines speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures. Pushes hand roller and pounds surfaces, using hand tamp, or guides portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.
Abilities required: Ability to do some manual labor and light lifting. Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies. Work overtime as required.
