What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Summer Teacher - Nature-Based Camp position at R.A.D Camps?
R.A.D. Camps is hiring Preschool Summer Teachers for R.A.D. Nest, our nature-based preschool camp for ages 3–4 in Bend, Oregon. This is a full-time seasonal role based primarily at Seven Peaks campus. Nest staff create a warm, structured first camp experience for preschool-aged campers. The role blends indoor learning, outdoor play, sensory activities, movement, stories, art, nature-based exploration, routines, and strong parent communication. This is not generic childcare and it is not passive supervision. It is professional early-childhood youth leadership. The right person is nurturing, calm, reliable, organized, and genuinely excellent with very young children. What you’ll do * Lead engaging preschool days that may include circle time, art, sensory play, stories, music, movement, outdoor exploration, free play, and nature-based learning. * Create a calm, warm, structured environment where young children feel safe and supported. * Support half-day and full-day campers ages 3–4. * Help with routines, transitions, bathroom support, lunch/snack flow, emotional regulation, and rest/reset moments. * Communicate professionally with parents, teammates, and leadership. * Support campus program needs when appropriate. * Maintain high standards for safety, supervision, cleanliness, and care. Must-haves * At least 21 years old. * Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. * Able to pass a background check before employment. * Available for paid staff training June 12–14, 2026. * Strong availability June 15–August 28, 2026. * CPR and First Aid certified by the start of camp, or willing to complete certification before camp. * Experience working with preschool-aged children in education, childcare, camp, recreation, or similar settings preferred. * Strong communication skills, professionalism, punctuality, reliability, patience, and emotional maturity. * Physically able to work full summer days indoors and outdoors. Nice-to-haves * Early childhood education coursework, degree, or relevant classroom experience. * Previous preschool, pre-K, childcare, camp, or youth leadership experience. * Experience with sensory play, outdoor learning, art, or play-based instruction. * WFA, WFR, WEMT, lifeguard, CPR/First Aid, or similar safety certifications. * Ability to adapt across campus programs when coverage is needed. Schedule and season * Paid training: June 12–14, 2026. * Core season: June 15–August 28, 2026. * Typical Nest staff days: Monday–Friday, centered around approximately 9:00 AM–3:00 PM program hours. * Staff may start earlier or end later depending on setup, handoff, extended care, staffing, or program needs. * Full-summer availability is strongly preferred. Compensation Competitive hourly pay depending on experience, education, and certifications. Overtime is paid at 1.5x for hours over 40 in a workweek. Mandatory training is paid.
