The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring proper valuation, and supporting month-end close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold. This role works closely with accounting, operations, and supply chain teams to ensure inventory transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and reconcile inventory accounts, including raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Record inventory-related journal entries, adjustments, write-offs, and reclassifications.
- Perform monthly inventory reconciliations between the general ledger and inventory subledgers.
- Analyze inventory variances, obsolete inventory, and reserve calculations; provide explanations to management.
- Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with cost accounting functions, including standard cost updates and bill of materials reviews.
- Prepare inventory roll-forwards and support monthly and year-end close processes.
- Collaborate with operations, purchasing, and warehouse teams to ensure accurate inventory reporting.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing inventory schedules and documentation.
- Ensure inventory accounting complies with GAAP and internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with inventory or cost accounting exposure.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting and cost of goods sold.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory modules.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Manufacturing, distribution, or retail industry experience.
- Experience with cycle counts and physical inventory processes.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Salary : $70,000 - $90,000
