What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jamaica Queens Older Adults Will Cherish Your Conversations! Become a Friendly Visiting Volunteer! position at Queens Community House?
Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.
QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
,
Queens Community House is recruiting volunteers for our Friendly Visiting program, a program that matches home bound older adults with volunteers for weekly visits or phone calls to help reduce isolation and loneliness among older adults in our community. Together, the older adult and volunteer can discuss shared interests, learn/teach new skills, play board games, read books, learn technology, and other fun activities.
We have several clients based in Jamaica (and surrounding areas - Hollis, St. Albans. Rochdale) who have interesting stories to share at weekly visits or phone calls.
To become a friendly visitor, you will have to complete an application, provide two non-familial references, consent to a background check and interview. We ask that you commit to at least six months once the right match is found for you.
