We are currently seeking a Project Manager. Candidates must be located within 90 miles of Lansing, MI. Interviews will be held in person in Lansing, MI. There is no option for a video interview. The work schedule is hybrid with two days onsite in Lansing, MI and three days remote. There is no option for a fully remote work schedule.
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide oversight, leadership, accountability, and project management for large, strategic projects and programs with high visibility at the executive level.
These initiatives require a fully dedicated Project Manager due to their complexity, level of detail, and accountability to executive leadership. Strategic projects typically involve a diverse group of stakeholders, vendor participation, coordination of multiple complex schedules, and significant integration with other systems.
Projects may span two years or longer, involve teams of 50 or more members, require regular executive-level communication, and carry significant levels of risk.
The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring consistency with established project management methodologies, performing long-term release planning based on organizational priorities, monitoring project budgets, quality, and schedules, escalating risks and issues when necessary, and performing quality-control activities to ensure project scope and expectations are successfully met.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage direct engagement with stakeholders and vendors, dedicating approximately 15–20% of time to executive-level communication, high-level project oversight, and stakeholder alignment.
- Lead monthly sponsor meetings and provide clear updates regarding overall project health, risks, issues, schedules, budgets, and key milestones.
- Establish and monitor project controls to ensure timely awareness of changes affecting project cost, quality, scope, or schedule.
- Provide project planning, staffing, and reporting to support the successful completion of assigned projects in alignment with sponsor goals and objectives.
- Ensure planning, staffing, and reporting activities follow the client’s established project management methodology and project prioritization processes throughout the full project lifecycle, from initiation through closeout.
- Direct and coordinate day-to-day project activities, tasks, milestones, and deliverables in accordance with the approved project plan.
- Work closely with project teams, stakeholders, leadership, and vendors to monitor project performance and resolve issues.
- Identify, track, manage, and escalate project risks, dependencies, and issues as appropriate.
- Perform additional project management and operational responsibilities as needed to support the overall goals and objectives of our client.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience working effectively in team environments within matrixed organizations.
- 5 years of experience resolving complex, high-priority conflicts and competing requirements.
- 5 years of experience applying project management principles, methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- 5 years of experience working with system development methodologies for the development of new systems and enhancement of existing information systems.
- 5 years of experience gathering, understanding, and clearly communicating stakeholder needs and requirements.
- 5 years of experience analyzing data, identifying problems, and developing actionable solutions.
- 5 years of experience communicating across multiple teams, building consensus, facilitating working sessions, and negotiating successful outcomes.
- 5 years of experience managing stakeholder relationships, maintaining positive interactions, and resolving issues effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a government or public-sector environment is preferred.
- Experience in multiple relevant roles, such as Project Manager, Program Manager, Project Coordinator, or similar project leadership or support positions, is preferred.
