PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Coordinates, directs and promotes all environmental, health and safety activities at the Quanta Nashville site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Environmental
-Maintains ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and plant certification.
-Insures compliance with all governmental and customer environmental requirements.
-Coordinates certification to the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) standard.
-Representative for new products and processes to assess environmental impacts.
-Responsible for site’s regulatory reporting requirements under state and federal guidelines including air emissions, hazardous materials, storm water and waste discharge.
-Supports and assists Engineering, Maintenance, Purchasing and other departments in new chemical and new product/process reviews including preparation of permit applications for new processes and interacting with regulators.
-Coordinates the plant recycle programs for plastic, wood, paper, metal and cardboard.
-Seeks ways to reduce the generation of all waste streams, air emissions and consumption of utilities.
-Coordinates employee training on EHS issues with the Human Resources department.
Health
-Interfaces with Workers' Compensation Insurer on industrial hygiene and other issues.
-Conducts periodic testing on employee chemical and noise exposure levels.
Safety
-Maintains ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and plant certification.
-Leads plant safety committee to investigate accidents and implement countermeasures to meet targets for lost time/minor accidents and reduce workers’ compensation costs.
-Insures compliance with all government safety regulations.
-Maintains Personal Protective Equipment list.
-Inspects all new equipment to identify and correct potential safety and ergonomic hazards and compliance with all regulations.
-Works with all new contractors to insure compliance to plant EHS rules.
-Interfaces with property insurer regarding accident, fire, loss prevention, emergency and disaster recovery issues.
-Maintains and updates master and departmental SDS files.
-Prepares and maintains lockout/tag out, hazardous communications, evacuation and other safety documents.
-Coordinates all fire and burglar alarm system tests, repairs and upgrades.
-Supervises hazardous materials spill prevention safety and control.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, industrial hygiene, occupational health, ergonomics, or related field.
-Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing plant EHS coordination.
-Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT and other government agency regulations.
-Familiarity with accident investigation and prevention and applied ergonomics
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and suppliers. Must conduct trainings, facilitate team meetings, update management on safety-related issues and provide relevant reports.
-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
-Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
-Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
-Computer literate in a Windows Environment: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.
-Analytical and detail oriented with good organizational skills.
-Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to use tact and diplomacy.
-Self-motivated with ability to use own initiative.
-Team building/relationship building skills to establish relationships with people at all levels in the organization.
–Results oriented-have a sense of urgency to follow-up on corrective measures to implementation and drives on the right issues
