What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Engineer position at Quanta Manufacturing Fremont?
Job Summary:
The Industrial Engineer – Level 1 supports the design, analysis, and optimization of manufacturing systems, processes, and workflows to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and cost performance. This role contributes to integrating people, materials, equipment, and information to support stable and scalable manufacturing operations. While working under guidance, the Level 1 Industrial Engineer is expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, apply engineering fundamentals, and progressively build independent problem-solving capability.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Execute pre-manufacturing planning tasks by developing and documenting production system concepts, process flows, and workflows based on defined volume and schedule requirements once sales deals are confirmed.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Process Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering teams to evaluate manufacturing approaches, gather inputs, and drive timely alignment on production readiness activities.
- Analyze manufacturing and operational data, such as end-to-end cycle time and throughput metrics, to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities, and propose data-supported recommendations.
- Apply industrial engineering principles—including ergonomics, time studies, and line balancing—to assess workstation layouts, tool placement, and manpower allocation, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Develop detailed production layout plans by defining equipment placement, material flow, logistics routes, and workstation configurations, ensuring plans support efficient day-to-day operations.
- Provide required headcount for each process flow to the production team based on the operation cycle time per station, ensuring smooth and consistent output.
- Develop rework cost estimates for potential rework scenarios and provide structured cost inputs to the Program Management team to support project planning and customer discussions.
- Perform manufacturing capacity analysis by reviewing available manpower and equipment, validating assumptions, and providing capacity inputs aligned with customer demand forecasts.
- Prepare clear documentation, analysis summaries, and presentations to support engineering reviews, cross-functional coordination, and management decision-making.
- Follow engineering standards, safety requirements, and company procedures while proactively identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and resource utilization.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Foundational understanding of industrial engineering principles, including process analysis, time and motion studies, work study/method engineering, human factors/ergonomics, and workflow optimization.
- Ability to analyze data, perform basic calculations, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks and develop independent problem-solving capability.
- Proficiency with common productivity and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, presentation software).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Internship, co-op, or entry-level experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred but not required.
