What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engagement Manager [VC-Backed Startup] position at Quander?
Company Description Quander is an AI company factory backed by Accel, We're a Stanford team and a founding crew of ex-founders (ex-Neuralink, ex-Goldman Sachs), and we've 10x'd revenue in the past 5 months. Customers like ClassPass, Mochi Health, Kumon, and Superpower trust us with their growth. We're a small but killer team working hard to become a unicorn, based in the heart of San Francisco.
We're looking for a Founding Engagement Manager for Hypesonic (our first product) who is hungry, organized, and ready to own their work from day one. This is a high-impact role where you'll wear a lot of hats — account management, sales, content production, creative strategy, and operations all roll into one — with the path to grow into leading operations. You'll be the connective tissue between our clients and our internal teams, ensuring deliverables ship on time, relationships stay strong, and revenue is protected and grown. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, love jumping between workstreams, and are motivated by seeing your work directly drive business results, this role is for you.
What you'll do
You'll move fluidly across everything below — no two days look the same, and you'll own outcomes end to end.
Client Facing
- Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship owner for your portfolio of managed-service clients.
- Build trust-based relationships that drive satisfaction, retention, and renewals.
- Lead weekly client check-ins — structured agendas, documented action items, stakeholders held accountable.
- Own the full client lifecycle within your portfolio: onboarding, ongoing management, and renewal.
- Own revenue retention by proactively spotting churn risk early and implementing mitigation before issues escalate.
- Support upsell and cross-sell by understanding client goals and presenting relevant Hypesonic solutions.
- Track and report on account performance metrics, and tie results back to revenue outcomes.
Operations
- Own end-to-end production of all client deliverables — videos, images, and creative assets.
- Coordinate with the creative production team to ensure on-brand, on-time delivery.
- Maintain a production calendar and track every asset through review, approval, and publishing.
- Ensure all content meets brand guidelines and quality standards before it ships.
Creative Strategy
Don't have a creative background yet? That's okay — we'll teach you.
- Help shape creative direction for your accounts, connecting content to each client's goals and audience.
- Translate client objectives and performance data into clear creative briefs.
- Develop a point of view on what's working and why, and use it to inform the next round of content.
- Stay close to platform trends and formats, and bring fresh ideas to the table.
Product Improvement & Systems
- Continuously evaluate the health and efficiency of managed services and broader company operations to spot gaps, bottlenecks, and opportunities.
- Go beyond your immediate responsibilities — if you see something that isn't working, speak up with a solution.
- Surface process inefficiencies and recurring client pain points, and propose actionable improvements to leadership.
- Document transferable playbooks and SOPs — systems, not heroes — and stand up the tooling and dashboards that show what's actually happening.
- Treat the company like your own: if something can be done better, faster, or smarter, you take ownership of making it happen.
Who You Are
- Proactive. You don't wait to be told what to do. You see a problem and you solve it.
- Ownership mentality. You treat every account, project, and deliverable like your own business. You don't drop the ball.
- Hungry to learn. Every challenge is a chance to grow; you ask great questions, absorb feedback quickly, and are always leveling up.
- Go-getter. You move fast, take initiative, and bring energy to everything. You don't need to be pushed.
- Solution-oriented. When obstacles come up (and they will), you show up with options, not just problems.
- Attention to detail. Nothing slips through the cracks on your watch.
- Excellent communicator. Clear, confident, and professional whether writing an email, running a meeting, or having a tough client conversation.
- Multi-project manager. You juggle multiple clients and workstreams simultaneously without losing quality or composure.
- AI-native. You already use AI tools to multiply yourself.
- Presentable to clients — some of ours are leaders at billion-dollar-plus companies.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in operations, agency, consulting, account management, project management, or a related client-facing role.
- Undergraduate degree in the USA, fluent in English as a first language
- Experience in a client-facing environment — agency, SaaS, or e-commerce preferred.
- Strong proficiency with project management tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable with data; able to read performance reports and translate them into action.
- An eye for creative and an interest in content strategy (formal creative experience is a plus, not a requirement — we'll teach you). Bonus if you've edited videos, CapCut especially.
- Startup or fast-growing-company experience is a strong plus.
- Excited to be in-person in San Francisco, building with the team.
Why Join
- Real ownership from day one — real client relationships and outcomes, never busywork.
- Founding equity and commission on the deals you manage.
- Direct mentorship from the founder/CEO and a team of ex-founders — a front-row seat to how a venture-backed company actually gets built.
- In-person in the heart of San Francisco, where the whole team builds together.
