Power your future with Qualus as a Principal PIMS & Project Systems Architect. The Principal PIMS & Project Systems Architect serves as the senior technical subject matter expert for Project Information Management Systems (PIMS), enterprise integrations, and utility project delivery platforms. This role is responsible for defining, assessing, and architecting scalable project information ecosystems that integrate owner, PMO, and field execution workflows, specifically within utility transmission, distribution, and infrastructure portfolios. This role bridges enterprise systems with project-level execution tools, ensuring a single source of truth for cost, schedule, resource loading, and reporting. The Principal PIMS & Project Systems Architect provides technical leadership across assessments, software selection, implementation roadmaps, and governance models while guiding clients away from manual, Excel-based workflows toward automated, decision-ready systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal technical authority for Project Information Management Systems (PIMS) across utility capital delivery and PMO environments.
  • Lead current-state to future-state assessments of people, process, and technology related to project information, data flows, and reporting.
  • Architect and govern two-way integrations between enterprise ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Fusion Cloud) and selected PIMS platforms.
  • Define functional and technical requirements for PIMS solutions, including:
    • Cost management and forecasting
    • Schedule translation and critical path visibility
    • Resource loading and capacity planning
    • Document control and workflow automation
    • Executive and portfolio-level reporting
  • Evaluate, score, and recommend PIMS solutions based on:
    • Utility-specific workflows
    • Ease of use for heavy system users
    • Internal supportability and long-term scalability
    • Integration maturity and data architecture
  • Develop PIMS implementation roadmaps, including phased go-live strategies, data migration approaches, and change management considerations.
  • Provide executive-level technical justification for software investments, clarifying architectural decisions and long-term ownership models.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to utility clients by translating complex technical concepts into practical, actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence, Project Controls, and PMO leadership to support automated reporting and performance analytics.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and pricing related to PIMS assessments, implementations, and digital transformation efforts.
  • Contribute to internal Centers of Excellence (COE), knowledge sharing, and development of repeatable frameworks and delivery tools.
  • Mentor technical and project delivery resources involved in PIMS assessments and implementations.
  • Provides technical leadership and oversight to cross-functional assessment and implementation teams.
  • Acts as a functional lead and mentor with direct people/project management responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility project delivery, PMO consulting, enterprise systems, or digital transformation, with direct experience assessing or implementing project management or PIMS platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • PMP, PMI-SP, PgMP, PE, or equivalent project/program management or systems certifications preferred.
  • Deep understanding of utility capital project delivery, PMO operations, and owner-side project workflows.
  • Strong experience with PIMS, project controls platforms, ERP integrations, and enterprise data architectures.
  • Ability to design and govern system integrations without reliance on custom data lakes or standalone SQL environments.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills related to process automation and system optimization.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead assessments, software selections, and roadmap development efforts.
  • High attention to detail with a strong process and data governance mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
