What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Quality Resource Group?
Accounting Manager
Quality Resource Group | Plymouth, MN (Hybrid)
Most accounting jobs bury you in one system, one product line, one way of doing things. This one won't. You'll touch print, promotional products, e-commerce, and inventory programs all under one roof, working directly with a VP who wants a real partner, not someone to hand busywork to. If you're the kind of person who gets restless doing the same close every month with no variety and no voice, this is a different kind of seat.
QRG helps brands run their merchandise, print, and fulfillment programs so they can focus on their business instead of managing vendors. We've built strong systems over the past few years, and now we're focused on getting more out of them, tighter processes, better controls, less friction. This role is at the center of that work.
The Role
We need a hands-on Accounting Manager to partner with our VP of Finance and Accounting and run the day-to-day accounting function. You'll be close to the transactions, strong on the details, and trusted to bring accuracy and accountability to a fast-moving, high-volume business.
You'll own month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, NetSuite transaction accuracy, AP and AR oversight, and inventory and manufacturing accounting. You'll also be the person who understands how accounting decisions ripple into operations, sales, inventory, and cash flow, and who helps the business make better calls because of it.
Reports to: VP of Finance and Accounting
What You'll Own
- Month-end close and reporting. Recurring and non-standard journal entries, GL reconciliations across cash, AR, AP, inventory, prepaids, fixed assets, payroll liabilities, and accruals. Variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods, with clear explanations of the business drivers.
- Inventory, manufacturing, and cost accounting. Serve as the go-to accounting resource for inventory valuation, assemblies, BOMs, work orders, item costing, landed cost, adjustments, and production variances. Partner with Operations to keep inventory transactions flowing correctly through the GL.
- NetSuite and financial systems. Maintain strong working knowledge of NetSuite GL flows and item records, resolve transaction issues, support order-to-cash and procure-to-pay improvements, and build saved searches, dashboards, and documentation.
- AP, AR, cash, and commissions. Oversight and support for vendor and customer setup, approvals, cash application, bank reconciliations, and monthly commission calculations and reconciliations.
- Payroll and fixed assets. Payroll journal entries and reconciliations, backup for payroll processing, and fixed and leased asset records including additions, disposals, depreciation, and amortization.
- Controls, systems, and process improvement. Manage internal controls and coordinate accounting processes across systems and teams. Document procedures, build standard work so key processes don't live in one person's head, and bring solutions with tradeoffs, not just problems.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience
- ERP experience required; NetSuite strongly preferred
- Inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting experience, including inventory valuation, assemblies, BOMs, work orders, item costing, or production variances
- Strong grasp of GAAP, GL accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Advanced Excel and comfort working with financial data
- CPA or CMA preferred but not required
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, printing, branded merchandise, e-commerce, or another high-transaction business is a plus
You are a hands-on operator who digs into transactions and closes the loop. You stay calm and steady under pressure, explain accounting clearly to non-accounting leaders, and are curious about how the business actually makes money. You are process-minded but practical. The goal is accuracy, speed, and accountability, not complexity.
