QPSI is a leader in contract packaging, and supply chain management. We specialize in design, packaging, fulfillment, and supply chain solutions for several national brands.
We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented Structural Designer to join our Design Team. This role is ideal for a junior-to-mid-level designer who is interested in packaging design, structural development, prototyping, mockups, and hands-on sample making.
The Junior Structural Designer will support the development of corrugated, paperboard, folding carton, and point-of-purchase display projects from concept through presentation and production support. This position will work closely with structural designers, graphic designers, sales, project managers, production, and other internal teams to help bring packaging and display concepts to life.
This is a hands-on role that includes creating mockups and white samples, preparing dielines, supporting graphic development, assisting with 3D printing, maintaining design equipment, photographing products and displays, and preparing internal and customer-facing presentations.
Essential Functions
- Assist with the development of structural packaging designs for corrugated, paperboard, folding carton, and point-of-purchase display projects.
- Create mockups, white samples, prototypes, and customer presentation samples using digital printers, digital die cutters, 3D printers, sample tables, and related equipment.
- Support packaging and display projects from concept through prototype, revisions, presentation, and production support.
- Prepare dielines, mockups, assembly instructions, renderings, presentation materials, and other design documentation.
- Assist with graphic development for packaging, displays, labels, mockups, and customer-facing materials.
- Photograph products, packaging, displays, and prototypes for portfolios, presentations, documentation, and marketing use.
- Design and write clear packaging assembly instructions, diagrams, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with structural design, graphics, sales, project management, and production teams to ensure project accuracy and alignment.
- Maintain quality standards across packaging designs, mockups, samples, and presentation materials.
- Manage and organize product samples, design materials, mockup supplies, and related inventory.
- Operate and assist with basic maintenance of design department equipment, including digital printers, digital die cutters, 3D printers, ect.
- Prepare, check, and organize digital files for mockups, presentations, print production, and internal use.
- Track project workflow, follow up on outstanding requests or evaluations, and help keep projects moving through the design process.
- Communicate professionally with internal teams and support multiple external and internal client requests.
Position Requirements
- Degree in Packaging Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Structural Design, Packaging Engineering, Visual Communications, or a related field required.
- 1–3 years of design experience preferred, ideally in packaging, displays, print, consumer products, industrial design, or a related creative environment.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop required.
- Working knowledge of ArtiosCAD, CAD-based design software, or willingness to learn preferred.
- Experience creating mockups, prototypes, presentation samples, dielines, or production samples.
- Familiarity with digital printers, digital cutting tables, 3D printers, or other prototyping equipment preferred.
- Basic understanding of packaging materials such as corrugated, paperboard, folding carton, foam, or similar materials.
- Basic understanding of print production, process color, spot color, file setup, and production artwork preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to review work for accuracy, consistency, quality, and manufacturability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong listening skills and ability to follow direction while also working independently.
- Proactive thinker with good problem-solving skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Organized, dependable, hands-on, and willing to learn new tools, processes, equipment, and packaging methods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Skills
- Packaging, corrugated, folding carton, point-of-purchase display, or consumer goods experience.
- Experience with ArtiosCAD, Impact, Esko software, or other structural packaging design tools.
- Experience preparing files for digital print, cutting, and prototyping.
- 3D printing, rendering (Blender), or concept visualization experience.
- Experience developing graphics for mockups, sales samples, or customer presentations.
- Basic equipment troubleshooting or maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of pallet pattern software such as TOPS or Cape is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of ISTA or ASTM testing standards is a plus.
