Our values have proven that this is only possible through Trust, Respect, Development, Adaptability, and Sustainability.POSITION SUMMARYThe Accountant reports to the Controller and performs complex professional accounting activities and related business transactions, as well as maintains or assists with maintain the General Ledger and Financial Reporting systems and providing management reports as needed.  The Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of various tasks within the accounting department.  while also supporting the Accounting Manager and Controller with areas of focus based on priorities. This position monitors and analyzes transactions for validity of account balances, accruals and financial statement impact. Participates in Financial Statement preparation and analysis. This position works with various departments of the Company as well as with independent auditors. The Accountant works closely with accounting and operations to ensure transactions are aligned with property budgets and policies. This Accountant supports the Accounting Department to help meet the departments goals and objectives.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSIndividual responsibilities include but are not limited to:    Preparation and quality assurance of:Consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departmentsMonth end close process, journal entries, accrualsGeneral ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accountsVarious monthly balance sheet reconciliations including bank reconciliationsFixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules; book monthly depreciationFinancial packages for property ownersAnswers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting dataGross potential rentAP Aging Review - Properties Cash FlowSupport the Accounting Department in the execution of:Audits and tax preparationPrepares documentation for external auditorsAccounting billableAnnual distribution for partnershipMonth End CloseProvide assistance, insights, and collaboration on:Housing authority paymentsResident Ledger issues Responsible for identification, creation, and adherence to internal controls and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, (GAAP).Other duties as assigned by supervisor.EXPERIENCEBachelor’s Degree in related field is preferred or minimum 5 years’ full-time experience in lieu of degree.Prior experience in the Property Management industry preferred.Technical skills and experience in financial reportingComputer literacy, including knowledge of computer systems and various applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email programs, the Internet and ability to interface with various DBMS software.Experience with Yardi Voyager property management accounting software is preferred.ESSENTIAL SKILLS       Must have a strong work ethic and positive attitude.The ability to organize and prioritize tasks.       Excellent customer service skills and ability to be flexible, a team player and interface professionally with all levels of internal and external customers.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including diplomacy and discretion.Proficient in English language in verbal and written communications.Handle high stress situations effectively.Ability to build external relationships while positively promoting the organization.Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, integrity and exercise confidentiality in all areas of performance.Thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative, deadline-driven work environment and ability to manage a high level of detail.A passion and strong understanding of our industry and our business' mission.Authorized to work in the United States for any employer.Physical demandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
