Structural Steel Field Surveyor – MD/VA
Location: Maryland or Virginia | Field-Based
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $30/hour — higher depending on experience
Position Summary
Seeking a field surveyor with structural steel experience to support construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This position involves site layout, measurements, alignment checks, and field support during steel installation. Regular travel to active job sites is required.
\n- Collect and verify field measurements using surveying equipment.
- Establish control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions.
- Check elevations, embed alignment, plumbness, and structural positioning.
- Prepare and maintain as-built drawings and field documentation.
- Support structural steel erection by verifying proper placement and alignment.
- Assist with installation of structural and miscellaneous steel, including stairs and shafts.
- Survey slopes, grades, and layouts for structural and miscellaneous metals.
- Coordinate with steel crews and other trades to maintain accurate installation.
- Use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office for field and project tasks.
- Follow site safety requirements and maintain safe work practices.
- 3 years of structural steel erection or field surveying experience.
- Experience with layout and surveying for structural or miscellaneous metals.
- Proficiency with a total station or similar surveying equipment.
- Working knowledge of AISC standards related to building alignment and orientation.
- Strong attention to measurements, details, and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews and other trades.
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors.
- Company vehicle and gas card provided for work-related travel.
- Primarily field-based, with occasional office/shop visits for training and meetings.
- Ongoing training and field support provided.
