Location: On-site — Ronkonkoma, NY (with flexible work-from-home as needed)
Position Overview
The Cybersecurity & Network Engineer designs, secures, and operates the organization’s IT infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
This hands-on role strengthens Qosina’s network backbone and cybersecurity posture; configuring firewalls, switches, and virtual environments while performing penetration tests, audits, and incident response.
It is a balanced position for an engineer equally skilled in infrastructure management and cyber defense.
Essential Functions
Network & Infrastructure Engineering
- Design, implement, and maintain reliable LAN, WAN, and WLAN networks.
- Configure and secure switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless APs.
- Manage routing, segmentation, and performance optimization.
- Support virtualization environments and ensure secure on-prem ↔ cloud connectivity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex networking and infrastructure issues.
Cybersecurity Operations & Compliance
- Conduct and support security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration tests.
- Monitor, detect, and respond to cybersecurity events within SecOps processes.
- Implement and enforce policies and controls aligned with GRC frameworks.
- Maintain system/network hardening baselines, patch compliance, and incident documentation.
- Support recovery, backup validation, and business continuity planning.
Governance & Collaboration
- Align network and security engineering with enterprise governance, risk, and compliance objectives.
- Develop and maintain documentation, policies, SOPs, and audit evidence.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver secure-by-design projects and technology initiatives.
Security Framework Alignment
The role contributes across the full Cyber Layer Framework:
- Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC): Defines risk appetite, policies, and controls.
- Security Operations (SecOps): Detects and responds to threats across all layers.
- User: Manages identity, access, and awareness training.
- Data: Safeguards information via classification, encryption, and DLP.
- Application: Secures software and API traffic flows.
- Host: Hardens servers, endpoints, and virtual machines.
- Network: Controls traffic flow, segmentation, and Zero-Trust connectivity.
- Physical: Prevents unauthorized physical access and tampering.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
Experience
- 7 years combined experience in cybersecurity and network engineering.
- Proven expertise in:
- Firewall, router, and switch configuration and management
- Network segmentation and VPN design
- Security audits and vulnerability remediation
- Windows and Linux administration
- Virtualization and hybrid-cloud connectivity
- Identity and access management (MFA, RBAC, PAM)
- Incident response and documentation
Certifications (Preferred)
- CCNP, Security , CISSP, or equivalent professional certification.
