Essential Functions

- Knowledgeable in the handling of specimens from accessioning to final specimen storage
- Embed process tissue according to specimen orientation guidelines as described in the SOP
- Assists with immune histochemical and special staining of patient casework * * Assists with preparing and organizing casework for review by Pathology
- Maintains lab organization and cleanliness
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies.
- Complies with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to Histology including adherence to workload requirements and maintaining accurate work records (i.e. Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.)
- Is able to perform all duties of a Lab/Immuno Assistant/Embedder
- Communicates problems and possible solutions to the Histology Team Lead.O
Other Responsibilities
- Exercises all precautions described in the Laboratory Safety Manual.
- Performs all work-related duties as assigned.
- Supports the goals of QDx Pathology Services and maintains a professional manner and demeanor.
- Complies with all QDx Pathology Services policies and procedures.

- Completes annual educational requirements (Continuing Education).
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains current knowledge of Laboratory policy as well as other regulatory agencies requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Attends departmental meetings and in-services as scheduled.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
- HS Diploma required.
- Prior laboratory experience preferred; on job trained acceptable
- Attention to detail a must
Working Conditions
- Typical medical laboratory environment with some risk of exposure to toxic/caustic fumes/particles. Possible exposure to minor airborne fumes from medical specimen handling. All specimens are FFPE (formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded), which may pose minimal infectious risk. Minimal chemical exposure (formalin, xylene, and alcohol fumes).
- Moderate noise (e.g., office with phones ringing, photocopiers, heavy personnel “traffic”, automated lab instruments, fume exhaust hoods, phone conversations), significant verbal communication due to group problem solving efforts and training.
- OSHA Category 1: Involves regular exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour
