The General Manager (GM) serves as the end to end business leader for the company, accountable for full P&L ownership, strategic growth, and operational excellence across the business. This leader inherits a maturing business and is responsible for strengthening its operations, market position, and financial efficiency.
GM drives both short term performance and long term enterprise value through disciplined financial management, customer-centric operations, and strategic expansion across existing and emerging aviation markets.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
P&L and Business Leadership
- Own full P&L accountability for the company, including revenue growth, margin performance, cost discipline, and capital investment decisions.
- Develop multi-year business strategies and annual operating plans aligned with corporate objectives.
- Build and execute market expansion strategies across new geographies, customer segments, and service lines.
- Assess business-line performance and implement improvements to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.
Strategic Growth & Market Development
- Identify and pursue organic and inorganic growth opportunities.
- Expand customer relationships with airport authorities, healthcare systems, tribal organizations, and commercial/charter partners.
- Strengthen the organization's competitive position in established markets while building presence in targeted emerging markets.
Operational Excellence & Safety
- Provide executive oversight, ensuring high-quality, safe, and compliant operations.
- Drive operational standardization, performance management, and continuous improvement across multi-site operations.
- Champion a safety-first culture aligned with FAA, TSA, DOT, OSHA, EMS, and all regulatory requirements.
Financial Management & Capital Oversight
- Set and manage budgets, revenue targets, cost controls, and capital allocations.
- Analyze financial and operational data to drive margin improvement and long-term sustainability.
- Approve and manage capital expenditures related to aircraft, facilities, technology, and major contracts.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of aviation directors, managers, and operational leaders.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer-focused execution.
- Ensure staffing strategies support core operations, seasonal demands, and growth initiatives.
Customer, Partner & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the senior executive interface with customers, regulators, airport authorities, and community partners.
- Represent the business in executive forums, public meetings, and industry events.
- Strengthen customer satisfaction and deepen long-term strategic relationships.
Risk & Compliance Management
- Identify operational, financial, and regulatory risks; implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure rigorous incident response, reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement programs.
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MPA, or related advanced degree preferred.
- 10 years of progressive leadership experience in aviation, medevac, transportation, or complex, multi-site operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience owning and growing P&L.
- Track record of leading business expansion across geographies or customer markets.
- Experience operating in Alaska or in similar remote environments.
- Ability to regularly travel using various modes of rural transportation, at least 25% of the time and up to 40% of the time
- Requires a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA's vehicle insurance policy.

Description of environment: Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and use standard office equipment
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Employee will travel 25%-40% of the time to various locations within Alaska/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
