Puyana Plastic Surgery is an innovative, high-end aesthetic plastic surgery practice launching a state-registered office-based operating room in Coral Gables. We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist who is also experienced in sterile processing and instrument reprocessing to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.
This role combines intraoperative surgical assistance with full responsibility for instrument sterilization, OR turnover, and infection control compliance. It is ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and takes ownership of OR excellence.
Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist & Sterile Processing Specialist will scrub and assist during plastic surgery procedures while also overseeing cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and tracking of surgical instruments. This individual plays a critical role in maintaining sterile technique, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and operating room readiness.
Core ResponsibilitiesSurgical Technologist Duties
Scrub and assist during aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures
Prepare, maintain, and break down the sterile field
Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments efficiently
Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts
Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping
Participate in time-outs and surgical safety protocols
Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique at all times
Sterile Processing & Instrument Reprocessing
Perform cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments and trays
Operate sterilization equipment in accordance with manufacturer IFUs and infection control standards
Maintain sterilization logs, biological indicators, load records, and documentation
Ensure proper storage and tracking of sterile instruments
Identify damaged instruments and coordinate repair or replacement
OR Turnover & Facility Readiness
Assist with OR setup and turnover between cases
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the OR and sterile processing areas
Support infection control protocols
Assist with inventory monitoring and supply management
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, CDC, AORN, and state office-based surgery standards
Support emergency preparedness protocols
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
QualificationsRequired
Experience as a Surgical Technologist in a surgical setting
Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
Experience in instrument sterilization and reprocessing
Active BLS certification (required)
Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment
Strong attention to detail and accountability
Preferred
CST certification
CRCST, CSPDT, or sterile processing certification
Experience in plastic surgery or aesthetic procedures
Experience in office-based surgical centers
ACLS certification (a plus)
