What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at Putnoi Eye Care?
We are seeking a full time experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our collaborative team. We are a surgical and medical practice specializing in cataract surgery. In addition, our practice provides medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma, dry eye and ARMD.
We have locations in Wellesley Hills and Waltham, MA
We are looking for a team member that will work with our office staff to provide exceptional care for our patients. While our practice is busy, we strive to maintain a familiar, caring atmosphere for our patients.
Essential Job Functions – include the following
Patient Care
- Screen patients before seeing a provider
- Conduct comprehensive patient intake by gathering medical history and documenting symptoms accurately
- Proficiency with Epic
- Slit lamp examination including accurate IOP measurements, competent with applanation and icare.
- Manual Refraction, Auto-Refraction, Measure glasses.
- Administer dilation/other drops.
- Assist and support doctors in exam lane when needed
- Respond to patient phone calls or clinical messages –often communicating with the provider to report back to the patient.
Conducting Tests/Assessments
- Visual Fields, Fundus Photography, Lenstar and/or ultrasound A-SCAN, OPD / Topography, OCT, Lipiscan, Optos, IPL, Tearcare, Icare tonometry.
- Assisting with minor office procedures ie i/d cysts, excision of lesions for biopsy
- Ensure exam rooms are fully equipped with necessary supplies,
- Maintain ophthalmic equipment and minor surgical procedures – setup trays, sterilize equipment,
Additional tasks
- Assist the lead technician with managing patient flow –monitoring scheduling issues,
- Process prescription refills and prior authorization requests,
- Assist with managing clinical messages
- Support Surgical Coordinator as backup when time to help with paperwork
Pay: $23.00 - $32.00 per hour

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- EMR systems /EPIC: 1 year (Preferred)
- Ophthalmology: 2 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certificate (Preferred)
Ability to Commute:
