The mission of the WRC is to provide advocacy, education, and services to the community in order to create a safe, supportive environment that eliminates violence against women, men and children.
The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center (PNWWRC) is dedicated to supporting the healing and empowerment of survivors of domestic and sexual violence through advocacy, education, shelter, counseling, and prevention services. Position Available : Safety and Access Advocate
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
Hours: Monday–Friday, days with some evenings required
Position Summary: The Safety and Access Advocate serves as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and community partners. This role blends front-desk operations, client advocacy, and administrative support to ensure a welcoming, safe, and well-organized environment. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities while supporting survivors with professionalism and care.
Key Responsibilities
Front Desk & Office Operations
- Serve as the primary receptionist, including answering phones and greeting clients and visitors
- Manage daily incoming and outgoing office mail
- Respond to walk-in inquiries and direct clients appropriately
Client Support & Advocacy
- Conduct client intakes and provide direct advocacy support
- Assist clients with accessing services and resources
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all agency policies and procedures
Donations & Special Projects
- Manage incoming donations and maintain the donation room
- Coordinate the setup and breakdown of the annual holiday room
- Track and organize donated items
Administrative & Data Management
- Complete data uploads and maintain accurate records
- Prepare thank-you letters and correspondence
- File documents and maintain organized records
- Manage quality improvement agendas
- Take meeting minutes and assist with reports
Additional Duties
- Participate in meetings and agency activities as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Skills required: Minimum of a BS or BA related field with professional experience preferred.
- Experience in advocacy, social services, or a nonprofit setting
- Familiarity with data systems or case management software
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, client-centered environment
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and trauma-informed care
- Strong speaking and relationship building skills a must
- Excellent writing skills a plus
- Must be able to work some flexible hours as needed
