Salary: Administrative Salary Schedule per Putnam County Board of Education Policy 4A.5 based on experience and education level per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule plus a competitive benefits package to include: PEIA insurance, retirement, life insurance, and free vision and dental insurance.

Job Description: The Exceptional and Alternative Education Specialist is responsible for implementation, revision, and monitoring services to students with special needs, student records such as IEP and 504 plan reviews and supervise alternative education programs to monitor instruction to students who have been temporarily placed in the alternative education program.
Qualifications:
- Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Administrative Certificate.
- Holds a master’s degree related to the public school program.
- Has minimum of five years of teaching and/or educational administrative experience.
- Demonstrated effective school administrative experience.
Length of Employment: 261 Days
Responsibilities: The Exceptional and Alternative Education Specialist shall have the following responsibilities and duties:
- To implement, revise, and monitor services to students with special needs.
- To provide assistance and support with IEP’s and 504 Plans and ensure accommodations are met.
- To supervise Alternative Education programs of Putnam County Schools.
- To conduct special assignments within Exceptional Education such as video review policies and other tasks.
- To coordinate Homebound Services for students.
- To serve as the Hope Scholarship contact for Putnam County Schools.
- To conduct policy development and maintenance of policies.
- To coordinate math field day, all county band/chorus events, social studies fair, spelling bee, young writers and other county special events as designated.
- To provide support for purpose and direction with exceptional and alternative education components.
- To work with and communicate effectively with others.
- To assist the Director of Exceptional Education with revision and monitoring of the exceptional education delivery process including referral, screening, evaluation, eligibility, placement, instruction and re-evaluation.
- To maintain professional work habits.
- To evaluate and monitor alternative education teachers, lead teachers, counselors, and administrators with student progress, diagnose academic deficiencies and remediate the students accordingly
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
