Position Overview
The Heavy Rescue Tow Truck Operator is responsible for operating heavy-duty tow trucks, wreckers, and rotators to recover and transport large vehicles, including tractor-trailers, buses, heavy equipment, and accident-damaged commercial vehicles. This role requires advanced driving skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to safely handle complex recoveries in high-pressure and emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty tow trucks, wreckers, and recovery equipment in compliance with
• company policies and DOT regulations.
• Respond to accident scenes, breakdowns, and emergency calls promptly and
• professionally.
• Perform heavy recoveries, winching, rollovers, load shifts, and load transfers safely and
• efficiently.
• Assess accident scenes and determine the safest and most effective recovery strategy.
• Secure, transport, and deliver vehicles and equipment to designated locations.
• Maintain proper documentation for all service calls, including work orders, mileage, and
• time records.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of tow trucks and equipment.
• Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance as needed.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, law enforcement, and roadside
• assistance providers.
• Uphold the highest safety standards and follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols.

Qualifications
Required:

• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening.
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy-duty wreckers or similar equipment.
• Knowledge of heavy recovery techniques, rigging, and load securement.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.

Preferred:

• WreckMaster or TRAA certification.
• Experience with rotator operations.
• Basic mechanical and welding skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 75 lbs and work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
