Summary

Develop detailed mechanical systems plan for new models to meet NMMA/ABYC/USCG and customer expectations. Design and document boat mechanical systems, source unique components and provide direction in construction of preproduction boats.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Generate preliminary and detailed boat mechanical systems plan from standard and optional equipment specifications to meet NMMA/ABYC/USCG and other applicable standards, as well as ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Design, document and direct in the construction of new vessel propulsion, fuel, hydraulic, water (fresh, raw, black & gray water), trim, anchoring, HVAC, power generation and other vessel mechanical systems.
  • Maintain an accurate weight study and hydrostatics model of vessel throughout the design process.
  • Implement testing and evaluation of new and existing mechanical systems and components as necessary to ensure effective, robust design.
  • Provide direction to Mechanical Engineering Technician(s) to facilitate the development and implementation of the mechanical plan for new models, ensuring schedule attainment on pre-production boats.
  • Create appropriate engineering drawings and specifications to source and acquire mechanical components from outside sources that will be used in the construction of new models.
  • Regularly convey the components and cost of the mechanical systems to the BOM Coordinator through engineering documentation so that the system cost can be accurately captured and the cost target can be met.
  • Responsible for aiding in the development of the kit structure and the manufacturing plan for the mechanical systems on all new vessels.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the Documentation Technician(s) to assure accurate and complete work instructions for all mechanical systems.
  • Conduct and schedule work so that department schedule and key milestones are met.
  • Participate in resolution of ECN and CAR issues for production.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 3 years experience in the marine field developing new product or in construction of production boats.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and use of company-wide software programs.
  • Must be proficient in 2D and 3D drawing and CAD software.

Education And/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate and present ideas to management team and peers
  • Must be proficient in providing direction to shop personnel to troubleshoot manufacturing issues in production area.
  • Organized, detail oriented, self-motivated team player with hands on work ethic.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and use of company-wide software programs: Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Willing to perform other tasks as necessary.
