Position Summary
The Community Support Associate (CSA) provides non-clinical, rehabilitative behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and/or adults with a primary mental health diagnosis or co-occurring disorder. Services are delivered in community settings and are designed to help individuals achieve maximum independence, improve functioning, and support treatment plan goals.
Services are provided in accordance with Kentucky Medicaid regulations and under the supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDirect Client Services
- Provide Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS) to Medicaid recipients with mental health or co-occurring disorders.
- Implement interventions identified in the client’s individualized treatment plan.
- Provide skills training, cueing, and supervision to improve daily living and community functioning.
- Assist clients in developing:
- Emotional regulation skills
- Crisis coping skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Support clients with:
- Medication adherence and awareness of side effects
- Accessing transportation, housing, employment, and community resources
- Daily living activities such as budgeting, shopping, and scheduling.
These services are intended to help individuals live as independently as possible in the community.
Care Coordination and Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with therapists, case managers, and treatment teams.
- Reinforce therapeutic interventions recommended by licensed clinicians.
- Participate in treatment planning meetings and provide updates on client progress.
- Communicate significant behavioral or clinical concerns to supervising clinicians.
Documentation and Compliance
- Complete timely and accurate documentation of all services in accordance with Kentucky Medicaid standards.
- Maintain progress notes, service logs, and treatment updates in the electronic health record.
- Ensure documentation reflects medical necessity and treatment plan goals.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and organizational regulations related to behavioral health services.
Community-Based Services
- Deliver services in community settings, including:
- Client homes
- Schools
- Community agencies
- Office settings
- Provide skill-building and support in real-life environments to promote independence and recovery.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria established in 908 KAR 2:250:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience working with individuals with:
- Mental health disorders, or
- Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
- Must complete an approved Community Support Associate training program within six (6) months of hire
- Must work under the supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in behavioral health, social services, or community-based programs
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or families
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Experience with electronic health record systems

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel within the service area to provide community-based services
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening
