The Punahou Design Technology and Engineering Department’s (DT) mission is to build and maintain an environment empowering students to develop social-emotional skills, technical abilities, and understanding of design theory with the Punahou aim of developing students who promote positive and purposeful action in the real world. We teach students to look for the educational opportunities in taking on the challenges that they encounter, discover and create and believe students learn more deeply when they are engaged in solving problems and working on challenges that inspire them. Our aim is to help students understand problems and challenges in the world and develop their ability to design, build, test and deploy increasingly realistic and sustainable solutions.
Punahou School is actively recruiting a faculty member to join the Junior School (K-8) DT team. Through the DT curriculum, students encounter a continuous and articulated set of technical skills, design and building experiences. The ideal candidate will be responsible, flexible and committed to design, innovation, and functional prototyping and able to work in a fast-paced, creative and collaborative environment.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 9 Months
- School Year: 2026 - 2027
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
- Faculty Salary Range*: $59,790 - $120,828

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, or Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience.
- Two (2) years experience teaching elementary (K-5) and/or middle school (6-8) aged students and a willingness to work with both.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of children and adolescents, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
- Able to support elementary and/or middle school teachers with integrated projects; work collaboratively within a team of teachers; and willing to grow and develop their skills to match departmental needs and innovations in the field of design technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in working with elementary and/or middle school and teaching one or proficiency in teaching one more of the following: computer programming, Design Thinking and/or design technology (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.), CAD and vector graphics software.
- Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies and the proven ability to work cooperatively within a grade-level and team to modify and develop materials and assessments within an articulated curricular framework that is embedded in the school's mission, vision, and aims.
- Knowledge about current research on teaching and learning for the relevant age group and skilled in applying its findings to a variety of situations—particularly those that call upon students to access, evaluate, and use information from multiple sources in order to learn, to think, and to create and apply new knowledge.
- Demonstrated history of maximizing impact of a variety of professional development opportunities to improve student learning. The ability and willingness to learn enthusiastically as a member of a professional learning community, and to connect with local, national, and global professionals.
