This role will function as a hands-on working supervisor, directing, supervising and training the staff working for the Lāna'i Water Company/Utilities Department. Under the general direction of the department supervisor, but with latitude and discretion, performs all types of general maintenance work while also supervising the Utilities Operators and Maintenance Staff. Examples of duties will include but are not limited to dismantling, installing, maintaining and repairing water and sewer pipelines, wells, pumps and water lines. Makes routine and minor repairs. Performs tasks of moderate to high difficulty, requiring skilled manual operations which involve some closely coordinated performance which must be close to adjustment and dimension limits.
Compensation:
$35.92/hour (non-exempt)

Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Supervises and directs the work of employees involved in the utilities maintenance operations. Must be qualified and able to perform the duties of the Distribution Operator Level 2 .
- Works from verbal instructions but must also be capable of working from assigned sketches, blueprints and/or written specifications and is able to comply with material and equipment lists.
- May work in all phases of maintenance and repair (including but not limited to the wells, pumps and water lines).
- Must possess a water treatment plant (WTP) or distribution system (DS) operator license of Grade 2 or higher, as certified by the Hawaii Board of Public Water System Operators.
- Is knowledgeable on existing relevant codes and Company policies and practices.
- Keeps records of time consumed on job and materials used. Maintains all service records on assigned equipment and prepares reports on all work performed.
- With limited oversight, able to determine necessary modifications in plans required due to obstructions or unforeseen circumstances.
- Uses machinery and tools with high degree of skill.
- Selects materials and fittings as required. Reorders parts that are used from inventory and notifies the supervisor of deficiency of spare parts that may exist.
- Possess basic knowledge of SCADA and other instrumentation or computer tasks. Is able to reload SCADA program and perform SCADA and other instrumentation and control readings.
- Performs repairs and maintenance on Clay valves, specialty valves, chlorine equipment and disinfection facilities.
- May assist with collecting water samples and analyzes for chlorine and other chemicals.
- May assist with reading and recording of meter readings.
- Informs supervisor of any work discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.
- Must be familiar with all equipment; must plan, schedule and report all work performed.
- Trains and/or assists in training of employees.
- Performs work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees, and with proper care and protection of company property. Correct other employees who are not working safely.
- Responds to alarms and emergency calls after hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualification/Requirements:
Two to three years experience with water distribution operation, preferred.
Previous supervisory experience, preferred.
Must be available for, and willing to be, on call on a 24-hour basis.
Must be able to read, understand, interpret, and apply information from service and maintenance manuals and other publications.
Must be familiar with all equipment. Must plan, schedule, and report all work performed.
Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
Ability to create effective working relationships with people.
Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
- Must possess a water treatment plant (WTP) or distribution system operator's (DSO) license of Grade 2 or higher, and/or a professional trades license. Or can obtain the (WTP) or (DSO) grade 2 after 2 years of employment.
Must possess a current State of Hawaii driver's license and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record

Salary : $37,800 - $63,000
