This position plays a vital role in supporting the Emergency Department by delivering accurate, timely, and compassionate patient access services. This position is responsible for pre-service demographic collection, verification of insurance eligibility, and guiding patients through financial processes during their visit. The Specialist works closely with Emergency providers and nursing staff to ensure all pre- and post-service financial clearance is completed efficiently and in accordance with hospital policy. The ideal candidate brings exceptional customer service skills and a strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients in a customer-focused, compassionate manner.
- Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
- Accurately verify all insurance benefits and explain co-pay requirements.
- Answer patient financial inquiries both in person and by phone.
- Identify patients’ financial needs and connect them with appropriate financial assistance resources.
- Communicate patient financial obligations clearly and professionally.
- Explain and review all necessary forms with the patient or their representative before treatment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance rules, state exchange products, and managed care.
- Assist patients/guarantors with completing Medicaid applications when needed.
- Ensure full compliance with HIPAA regulations, accessing only information necessary for job duties.
- Understand and apply the Emergency Medical Treatment Act (EMTALA) regulations appropriately in all interactions.
- Meet established performance standards for accuracy, timeliness, and service excellence.
