Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Technical Operations Specialist.

About the Position:

The Technical Operations Specialist acts as the primary quality control for audio on CPR’s four program services. You monitor and assist in troubleshooting audio playout, routing, and transmission systems to ensure that correct audio that meets CPR quality standards is being broadcast. You provide support for other departments in their interactions with these systems and respond to emergencies as well as routine help requests.

We are hiring for two roles at this time and are accepting applications for people qualified to be a TOC Specialist or a TOC Senior Specialist. To be considered qualified for the Senior Specialist role, you MUST have broadcast automation experience, studio and/or audio routing experience, and familiarity with trafficking systems.

This is not a remote position. The TOC Specialist is expected to reside in the Denver Metro area upon starting.

About You:

If you’re a fan of spreadsheet gaming or logical reasoning puzzles, interested in diving into broadcasting, and are excited to deliver meaningful news, music and cultural experience to Coloradans, we want to talk to you!

You are detail oriented and excellent at managing competing tasks. You have strong computer literacy and problem solving skills. You have experience quickly and kindly communicating with remote staff, particularly in emergency or high-stress situations. You are an excellent communicator with strong customer service and active listening skills. You enjoy collaboration and working with others to solve problems. You enjoy learning new technical systems and tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years experience that includes using a range of technical systems to quality check audio. This includes familiarity with audio editing programs, radio automation software, studio or audio routing, Microsoft OS, and Slack or similar communication platforms. This could include broadcast, podcast, or live venue working experience.

  • Experience staying calm, acting strategically, and prioritizing tasks during emergencies.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed procedures.

  • A history of being punctual and reliable in adhering to a set work schedule.

  • Experience communicating with others to solve problems under pressure.

  • Adequate vision to read user access panels on broadcast electronic components.

  • Physical mobility and dexterity to access electronic devices and wiring in standard server racks.

Education Equivalency:

  • While not required, a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree relating to the role may replace some of the necessary years of experience required to qualify.

Don't meet every single requirement? Research has shown that women, people of color and many marginalized communities are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to still apply.

Benefits:

Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring. Our employees have access to: 100 percent employer paid individual health, dental, life, and disability coverage; an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as vision; a retirement plan with no waiting or vesting periods; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere.
