Staff Civil Designer
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Staff Civil Designer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects by developing high-quality designs, construction plans, and technical deliverables for land development, infrastructure, and utility projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in civil design software, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute throughout all phases of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design civil engineering projects including:
- Site development
- Land development
- Roadway design
- Storm drainage systems
- Stormwater management facilities
- Water and sanitary sewer utilities
- Sediment and erosion control
- Traffic control and facility design
- Prepare construction drawings, figures, specifications, and technical reports.
- Execute civil design assignments using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other industry-standard software.
- Develop and refine designs from sketches, markups, and engineering concepts.
- Incorporate applicable codes, standards, and specifications into project designs.
- Analyze reports, maps, topographical data, and geotechnical information to support project planning and execution.
- Perform grading and volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site development projects.
- Review design drawings for quality assurance, accuracy, and compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to resolve design challenges and maintain project progress.
- Manage revisions, plot files, and project documentation in an organized and structured manner.
- Support project teams with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with 7 years of related experience; OR
- Associate Degree with 8 years of related experience; OR
- 9 years of progressive detailing and civil design experience.
- Advanced proficiency with:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- MicroStation
- Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles, calculations, and design systems.
- Experience producing design deliverables for infrastructure and land development projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on municipal, transportation, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
