Job Overview:
The Telecom Safety Specialist provides direct field oversight of contractors performing telecom tower construction, foundation work, antenna/line installation, underground fiber optic boring, and related civil activities. This role ensures contractor compliance with safety expectations, telecom construction standards, and industry regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Contractor Qualification & Work Authorization:
- Verify contractor training, credentials, and compliance with telecom safety expectations.
- Ensure contractors understand site-specific hazards, underground fiber routes, and clearance requirements before mobilization.
- Review tower construction and fiber boring plans to confirm protection of existing fiber facilities.
- Field Oversight of Tower Construction:
- Monitor tower erection, climbing operations, rigging/lifting, concrete foundations, and antenna/line work.
- Validate proper fall protection, exclusion zones, and equipment inspections.
- Intervene or stop work when unsafe conditions arise.
- Fiber-Optic Boring & Underground Work:
- Oversee underground boring operations ensuring proper locate verification, depth requirements, and bore-path monitoring.
- Confirm contractors avoid inadequate construction practices that cause fiber strikes or damage.
- Ensure proper potholing, marking, and as-built documentation.
- Hazard Identification & JHA Review:
- Review contractor Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for tower work, excavation, and directional boring.
- Verify hazard controls for high-energy tasks and telecom-specific risks.
- Experience in telecom construction, tower erection, or fiber-optic installation.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and telecom construction safety practices.
- Ability to engage, coach, and correct contractors in the field.

Pay Range: $40 - $45/hr. W2
