FEA Simulation Engineer
An FEA engineer is a member of our Predictive Modeling group that works closely with design, analytical lab & packaging engineers to analyze and provide solutions to development. The successful candidate will also work directly with customers to establish project guidelines, offer technical guidance, ensure proper implementation of project goals, analyze and report final data.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead and execute finite element modeling activities involving structural integrity of plastic packages under different thermal environments and load levels.
- Simulation of both injection molding and blow molding of preforms into bottles for ISBM and RHSB platforms
- Simulation of parison forming and blowing for EBM platforms
- Provide stress and deformation analysis of packages and plastic parts for identifying critical geometry and wall thickness needed for passing customer provided specifications
- Co relate simulation model with process parameters of actual molding. Able to program large data models to control machine process parameters.
- Support strategic efforts and deployment of additional CAE modeling processes to accelerate product development
- Translate actual physics of application to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model, interpret and analyze results for selecting best solution for manufacturing
- Conduct physical experiments to co-relate simulation results with reality. Experiments would include measurements of mechanical and thermal properties of different polymers and parts molded from them
- Review project-related analysis result to ensure project accuracy
- Interpret analysis results and convert them to design suggestions
- Interpret analysis results with lab testing results
- Develop customer project framework with projected costs and timelines
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline project execution
- Work with customers to deliver professional quality results and reports in a timely fashion
- Facilitate positive working relationships with customers and internal resources
- Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities; resolving problems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or appropriate functional discipline and/or demonstrated high level of technical experience in related field
- Hands on Experience with Finite Element Solvers (Abaqus from Simulia preferred)
- Working with Thin Shell elements as in Plastic bottles a plus
- Some experience in CAD especially in Siemens NX for manipulating and editing geometry for meshing would be required
- Proficiency in python scripting preferred for Abaqus script development
- Software programming skills using Visual Studio Editor for Web and Desktop applications using C# and SQL. Ability to use API’s to build new applications
- Mechanically oriented and hands on experience in building devices incorporating PLC’s, motors, relays, transducers and solenoids preferred.
- Hands on problem solving experience using PLC s. Ability to program PLC s and trouble shoot circuit and logic faults
- Should be self-motivated and willing to work with others for development and implementation of innovative solutions
- Positive attitude and team building skills
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized, detail oriented
- Experience in plastics field and/or production environment preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
