Packaging Project Manager
We are seeking a skilled Packaging Project Manager to lead and support plastic packaging projects, ensuring the development of innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in plastic materials, manufacturing processes, and packaging design, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to optimize packaging performance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development:
- Develop and optimize plastic packaging solutions for new and existing products.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct material selection and compatibility analysis for plastic packaging.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with clients to develop focused evaluation protocols and testing methodologies.
- Collaborate with strategic partners and internal business development team.
- Facilitate positive, proactive working relationships with customers and internal resources.
- Evaluate emerging materials for packaging, including analysis of results and recommendations for material improvements.
- Project Management:
- Lead plastic packaging projects from concept to commercialization.
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and stakeholders to meet project timelines and objectives.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses for packaging solutions.
- Evaluate recycling materials, polyesters, or new materials in oriented applications, including films, plaques, bottles, and thermoformed articles.
- Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
- Prepare project reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data to make recommendations.
- Testing & Quality Assurance:
- Perform and oversee packaging performance testing (drop tests, compression, seal integrity, etc.).
- Ensure packaging meets functional, aesthetic, and sustainability requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve packaging-related issues in production and supply chain.
- Sustainability & Innovation:
- Research and implement eco-friendly plastic packaging solutions.
- Evaluate recyclability, biodegradability, and lifecycle impacts of plastic materials.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, regulations, and technologies in plastic packaging.
- Sustainability and material evaluations project lead.
- Guide customers in package design for recyclability and sustainability.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's or master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in plastic packaging development, preferably in consumer goods, food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of plastic materials (PET, PP, HDPE, etc.) and processing techniques (injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming).
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for packaging design.
- Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ASTM, ISTA).
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
- Other: Experience working with suppliers and understanding regulatory requirements for plastic packaging (FDA, EU regulations, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in sustainable packaging initiatives (e.g., PCR, compostable plastics).
- Knowledge of automation and Industry 4.0 in packaging processes.
- Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
