Summary:

The Universal Banker I builds, maintains, and strengthens Bank customer relationships by delivering an excellent customer experience. This position greets customers promptly, performs transactions accurately and timely, and opens deposit accounts that meet the customers’ financial needs. The Universal Banker I works with the operations and sales teams to achieve personal, branch, and Bank goals while adhering to compliance and operational procedures as well as applicable regulatory standards, requirements, and policies. This position performs operational tasks to assist with the successful operation of the branch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides exceptional customer service by promptly greeting customers and fulfilling their sales and service needs in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Accepts and accurately processes a variety of financial transactions for customers, including typical consumer and business transactions, such as, cash checks, process deposit account withdrawals and loan payments, order checks, etc.
  • Responsible for cash drawer, follows proper balancing procedures, maintains appropriate cash levels, and reports outages within the parameters of the established guidelines.
  • Identifies transactions that require a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) and accurately prepares CTR.
  • Processes wire transfers within Bank guidelines.
  • Identifies sales opportunities to cross-sell other products or refer to other departments as appropriate to meet their financial needs and to achieve personal and branch goals.
  • Performs branch operational functions, including but not limited to, ATM management, vault balancing, and check imaging.
  • Effective utilizes relevant Bank applications and software programs necessary for performing position duties.
  • Seeks ways to improve processes to enhance the customer experience.
  • Reviews and maintains moderate knowledge of products, fees, and policies, and stays current on Bank offerings to make product suggestions.
  • Provides account servicing and maintenance and assists with customer problem resolution in accordance with all established procedures and regulations.
  • Recognizes sales opportunities when responding to customer inquiries or information requests.
  • Advises consumer customers on appropriate deposit accounts that meets their needs, opens new deposit accounts in a professional manner, and follows Bank procedures and policies.
  • Processes consumer loans from application to close, including but not limited to, interviews loan customers, prepares and processes applications and documentation, and prepares necessary loan tracking reports.
  • Proportion of time spent on teller and new account duties will vary depending upon branch traffic.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for increased efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Researches, compiles, and prepares reports, manuals, correspondence, or other information required by management or regulatory agencies.
  • Complies with government, regulatory, and Bank policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three months of Banking and/or demonstrated sales experience required.

Skills, Knowledge and Performance Expectations:

  • Demonstrates proficiency of Tier II authorities (see Tier II attachment) pertaining to check signing, core authorities, and transaction limits.
  • Meets required sales and referral goals as established.
  • Moderate ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve customer financial needs.
  • Completes online and other trainings as required and within the given timeframe.
  • Interacts confidently with customers.
  • Cash handling and/or payment transaction experience while following established processing procedures and controls.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of the Bank’s core system as it pertains to processing transactions and opening deposit and consumer loan accounts.
  • Moderate knowledge of consumer products and services to better serve Bank customers.
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with others in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Bank applications, software, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Works under demanding time constraints and expectations, including prioritizing and handling multiple tasks throughout the day.
  • Works in both autonomous and team settings.
  • Efficiently performs the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Models a respectful, diverse, inclusive and collaborate work environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Consistently attends work, meetings, and required training or staff events.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Position is located at an appropriate PS Bank location that requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Ability to travel to other Bank branches, including corporate headquarters.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels and a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movement by constant operation of all office and computer equipment as required to perform position, such as a computer, copier/printer, fax, calculator.
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information through telephone conversations, electronic mail, writing letters and memos and face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
  • Ability to lift objects on a limited basis of approximately 20 pounds.
